Niemi, 57, and DePrisco, 58, first met through friends and dated for over a year before getting engaged last December. He proposed on Christmas Eve.
Niemi was married to Dirty Dancing and Ghost star Swayze for 34 years before he passed away at 57 from pancreatic cancer in September 2009.
After losing her beloved husband and life partner, Niemi opened up about what it was like to fall in love again with DePrisco in an April 2014 blog post.
“They say that falling in love is wonderful,” Niemi wrote on her website, while describing her feelings about DePrisco in great detail. “That sick feeling.”
“The butterfly stomach, the rubbery legs, the diminished mental capacity. A feeling of being paralyzed, like some kind of speared fish, floating helplessly.”
Sounds potent! She wrote of splitting with her now-husband briefly in 2013, “I spent the next two mornings sobbing inconsolably for hours in private.”
“My behavior was so crazy. But it had only been a few years since my husband had died,” she went on, noting that this played a role in her emotions.
“It was later that I realized that the separation had triggered all my fears, my emotions, the pain of, once again, having someone taken away from me.”
“But I have to say, as devastating as the loss of my husband has been, would I go back and start all over again with him, even knowing the tragedy that lay ahead?”
“Yes. I would. A thousand times over. Instead of walking away, or trying to find a way to be safe in a situation that threatens to annihilate me. Embrace ALL of it.”
“Without holding back, without looking for a quick-exit rope.”
We’re so glad it worked out. Congratulations, Lisa Niemi!
Elliot Rodger Massacre: Family Releases Statement, New Details Emerge
New details have emerged surrounding Elliot Rodger and the killing rampage this 22-year old went on Friday night in the California college town of Isla Vista.
According to a YouTube video posted hours prior to his attack, Rodger targeted the women who snubbed him over the years, along with the men they selected over him, in a stabbing and shooting massacre than took the lives of six people.
“I’ll take great pleasure in slaughtering all of you,” Rodger says in the disturbing video, adding that he’s a virgin who never even kissed a girl and saying:
“I don’t know why you girls are so repulsed by me. I am polite. I am the ultimate gentleman. And yet, you girls never give me a chance. I don’t know why.”
Of the males Rodger viewers as his rivals, he warned:
“I deserve girls much more than all those slobs… you will finally see that I am, in truth, the superior one, the true alpha male.”
The first casualties on Friday were male stabbing victims in Rodger’s apartment whose names have not been released, Sheriff Bill Brown told CNN this morning.
Around 9:30 p.m., Rodger shot three woman near the Alpha Phi sorority house, having written in a manifesto titled “My Twisted World” that he sat in his car “to stalk” the sorority on multiple occasions.
He then drove to a deli where he walked inside and shot and killed another UC Santa Barbara student, 20-year-old Christopher Michaels-Martinez.
Following this kill, Rodger drove around Isla Vista and shot at more pedestrians while running some down with his car. Aside from the deceased, a total of 13 people were injured in the massacre.
Deputies later found three semi-automatic handguns, all purchased legally, with 400 unspent rounds in Rodger’s black BMW.
It is believed the 22-year old was shot in the hip and then took his own life via gunshot to the head.
Family attorney Alan Shifman said in an interview with ABC this weekend that Rodger was the victim of a serious bullying incident at a party about 18 months ago and he is “sure that played a role in the terrible consequences” that followed.
At the request of concerned relatives, deputies made a “welfare call” on Elliot April 30 but “determined he did not meet the criteria for an involuntary mental health hold,” Sheriff Brown said during a news conference last night.
Added Shifman in his statement:
“The Rodger family offers our deepest compassion and sympathies to the families involved in this terrible tragedy. We are experiencing the most inconceivable pain and our hearts go out to everyone involved.”
