War on terror: a ploy to dominate the world

Addressing a seminar on the ‘clash of civilisations’ at the Anti-Imperialist Camp, Assisi, Italy, Dr. Ghayasuddin Siddiqui, leader of the Muslim Parliament, said it was less a clash of civilisations than a clash of rival fundamentalisms, Christian and Muslim, bearing in mind that Muslim fundamentalism is the creation of the first, whose proponents polarised the terms of debate between the two religions, devised by them to justify a state of perpetual war. He said it was perhaps no accident that Samuel Huntington’s book came out after the collapse of the Soviet Union.

The US corporate sector and its allies the Christian fundamentalists and the neocons, needed a new enemy if they were to pursue ‘full-spectrum dominance’, now that a useful stimulus has disappeared. Islam was identified as the new enemy for reasons of history as it could arouse sufficient hatred amongst people, feeding on their paranoia. Islamic fundamentalism is being used as a scapegoat to control the future course of history; once controlled, world resources will be denied to any potential rival.

He added that such clash requires two sides but in the current conflict only one side is determining both responses. Huntington’s thesis was also a god-send to the right wing political parties. Whilst they are busy using it to fuel Islamophobia, playing second fiddle to the US agenda, governments are using the fear of the ‘other’ to curtail political dissent through anti-terror laws.

He warned Muslims to be aware of falling into the trap of believing it to be a war on Islam. It is a war against humanity at large with no other object then their total subjugation. Today, no single group can confront the forces of aggression but an alliance of potential victims might, he concluded.
